Senior Commercial Building Review Officer

This is an opportunity to join a large metropolitan council, which gives you exposure to a wide range of projects and is your chance to make a difference.  With the volume and complexity of projects we are working on, we are looking for a Senior Commercial Review Officer to join our team.  

The Building Unit is supportive and always looking for new ways of working, so if you want to work with a team who thinks outside the square and will welcome your suggestions, this could be the role for you.

About the role:
We are passionate about sharing our knowledge and developing our people to be the future leaders of our industry and you will be passionate about this too! 
Your primary focus will be assisting our Building Review team by providing technical specialist advice to our Building Review Officers.  This may be processing Commercial building consents, or it may be taking the lead on projects that we as a council are working on.

What will you be doing:

  • Receiving and processing building consent applications ensuring compliance
  • Providing accurate and timely advice to the public and staff on building, plumbing, drainage information and plan processing
  • Assist the Team Leader with workflow management to ensure we meet legislative requirements.
  • Provide coaching, training and mentoring to our team, to build the capability across our team.
  • Provide technical advice and leadership across the Building Control team. 

What you will bring to the role:

  • A passion to share your knowledge through coaching and mentoring to other staff.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Building legislation with a focus on commercial construction.
  • A Regulation 18 qualification and Commercial 3 competency in processing.
  • A pragmatic approach to negotiating solutions.
  • Extensive experience in processing commercial consent applications.
  • A working knowledge and experience within a building control environment.

The salary is negotiable to meet the successful candidate's level of skills and experience they could bring to the team.
