PURPOSE OF THE POSITION To undertake Building Control functions as directed to establish compliance with NZ Building Act, NZ Building Code and any applicable Regulations. This position reports to Team Leader - Consents and or Inspections.

The key accountabilities of this position are:
• Perform building control functions in accordance with the requirements of the Building Act 2004, Building Code and any applicable Regulations.
• Self manages to achieve duties in a timely manner while adhering to the FNDC Quality Manual for Accreditation, conduct policy and the BOINZ ethics statement.
• Maintains and demonstrates an enabling mind set, with consideration to cultural and social differences when interacting with stake holders to achieve compliant outcomes, which contribute to wider community by Increasing customer understanding of regulatory controls and processes and guiding customers through the process to achieve compliance.
• Develops and maintains competency in accordance with the National Competency Assessment System to perform building control functions with an ongoing commitment to professional development as set out in your personal development plan.
• Maintains and develops emotional intelligence skills (soft skills) to contribute to an inclusive and collaborative team environment while endeavouring to maintain relationships with our customer base and the construction industry we serve.
Additional accountabilities are: • Understand your powers and authority as an Authorised Officer and limits on delegated authority.
• Accurate and informed technical decisions made to effectively manage the organisation’s exposure to liability resulting from possible building failure.
• To communicate the reasons for the inspection results to the customer (builder, owner, and agent) in a manner that enables them to understand any outstanding compliance issues.
• Inspect building work against approved building consents, building code standards and other applicable legislative requirements and make the appropriate technical decision to pass or fail the inspection.
• The ability to interact with and develop effective working relationships with people associated with the construction industry.
