We have a fantastic opportunity for someone who is interested in leading our team responsible for the Territorial Authority functions of the Building Compliance department.  This involves ensuring an effective and efficient monitoring, compliance and enforcement service that meets legislative requirements as well as the needs of our community.

 

More specifically, the team are responsible for:

 

·       Providing expert advice, processing TA applications (including certificates of acceptance, BWoFs and compliance schedules)

·       Complying with legislation associated with building compliance matters, e.g. Earthquake Prone Assessments and swimming pool assessments

·       Actively monitoring and evaluating compliance with the Building Act, as well as ensuring public safety and other related regulatory requirements are met by undertaking inspections and investigative processes

·       Providing recommendations around enforcement action where appropriate, including a range of options and associated risk including the issuing of Notices to Fix (preparation and presentation of evidence before court will be necessary in some cases)

·       Providing a coordinated response to building compliance complaints and enquiries

 

As the Team Leader you will not only support the team but also oversee and ensure the accuracy of compliance monitoring and work on implementing a programmed approach to follow up on outstanding building compliance matters. In addition, you will provide technical advice on compliance matters (including recent or impending changes) to the public and Council to encourage compliance with statutory requirements and enhance knowledge within the District.   

 

Our ideal candidate will bring:

 

·       Competent technical understanding of the relevant legislation and obligations as it pertains to monitoring, compliance and enforcement action

·       Sound understanding of local government processes

·       Thorough up to date understanding and practical working knowledge of Building Act including all recent changes and amendments

·        Ability to prepare and present evidence in Court

·        Good communication skills, both written and spoken

·        Ability to lead a team, and mentor and supervise staff

·        Ability to mediate with and resolve conflict in difficult circumstances and with different customers

·        Ability to work methodically and efficiently and to set and meet appropriate standards and deadlines

·        Experience leading compliance and enforcement functions
