Porirua City Council

Porirua's changing. Thanks to new housing developments, large scale regeneration projects and new transport links, it's rapidly growing into a diverse, well-connected city with big opportunities.

Porirua City Council is rejuvenating and expanding to prepare for its future growth and continue to develop a resilient, liveable city for future generations. One thing we know for sure, the Building Assurance team is directly impacted by our city's growth. We need to work differently to improve our processes and become more future-focused. Old ways of doing things will no longer work.

This is a fabulous opportunity for someone keen to embark on a career in building assurance. You may have recently completed a degree in Building Science (or similar) or you may have some work experience in this space, but you will definitely be energetic and eager to learn.

As our Building Assurance Officer you may be involved in a range of duties such as the following:

  • Assessing applications submitted under the Building Act 2004 and all relevant tasks associated
  • Process building consent applications to establish compliance with the NZ Building Code
  • Answering queries received by the public and internal groups demonstrating a customer orientated service
  • Establishing close working relationships with relevant stakeholders

All about you

You'll need to show us that you:

  • have a good understanding of the building legislation framework
  • understand the principles of building design and construction techniques
  • can work independently and make well-considered decisions
  • can actively participate and share learnings to the benefit of the team
  • have a relevant professional or tertiary qualification.
