South Taranaki District Council

Full Time

We are looking for someone to help us make South Taranaki the most liveable district. For the planning and development unit this means finding someone who wants to help the community have a diversity of living and employment options, whilst protecting the natural and cultural values that surround us.

South Taranaki is seeing an increase in the construction sector, and an increase in land subdivision that will lead to further increases in construction, in particular houses. We also have a district plan that has recently become fully operative, but already needs someone to step up and play a lead role in rezoning proposals to formalise the growth that's already happening in strategic areas.

The South Taranaki District Council offers a proven "Best Place to Work" environment and the chance to join an energetic, progressive organisation. You will be part of a Management team which is focussed on delivering results and high-quality customer service, building strong teams, developing your people and their capabilities and engaging in key partnerships with our community.

This position has been created as a result of a recent reorganisation and will report directly to the Planning & Development Manager, another newly created role.

The key functions of the role include:

  • Ensuring an integrated approach to the processing of resource consents that meet statutory timeframes and customer expectations
  • Ensuring decision making on consents and compliance strikes the right balance between economic drivers and the protection of environmental and community values
  • Assisting the planning and development manager in ensuring the district plan remains current and fit for purpose

This position is a working Team Leader role and is an opportunity for an experienced individual with sound planning knowledge and excellent customer service skills to make this job their own. The successful person will be required to lead and mentor a small team, process the more complex consents and assist the Planning & Development Manager in the integration of decision-making across the planning, building and development engineering functions.

When submitting an application, please ensure you provide a covering letter outlining your skills and experience for the role along with your most current CV. In terms of residence class visa applications, first priority will be given where the applicant is in New Zealand.

Applications close on Thursday, 21 January 2021.
