  • Experienced leader?
  • Seeking a change of scene?
  • Work and enjoy the Nelson lifestyle

As the result of an internal promotion we have a great opportunity for a people leader with building inspections experience to join our building inspections team.  You will lead our committed and hard-working team of 9 who undertake a variety of duties from building inspections and building compliance to the issuing of Code Compliance Certificates for residential and commercial buildings. It's an exciting time to join us following our move to become a fully integrated digital building control service.

Your high level of people and relationship management skills will complement your technical skills and ability to motivate and lead a team, resolve issues, and explain technical information in a way that people can understand.  If you're not currently working for a Council, maybe you’ve done a similar job in the past (such as building surveying) and are now ready to take your leadership and inspection skills further.  Your strong understanding of construction and design will ensure Nelson’s developments are safe and meet the requirements of the Building Act and Building Code.

Our building unit prides itself on being accredited as a Building Consent Authority and we are constantly striving to improve our processes and procedures. We offer ongoing professional and personal development opportunities and a work culture that is respectful of the balance you are striving for.

If you're ready for your next career move, please check out the competencies below and tell us in your cover letter how we're a great match for each other:

  • Your experience of leading a team of building inspectors and/or surveying professionals
  • Strong communication skills with an ability to build and maintain positive working relationships
  • Proven experience of developing and building team capability
  • Demonstrated committment to delivering excellent customer service
  • Technology savvy with a practical focus on using technology to improve the customer experience
  • Working knowledge of the Building Act and Building Code
  • Your relevant qualifications (e.g. building surveying, Reg 18, level 5 Diploma small buildings or Level 6 Diploma medium/large buildings) including any recognised competencies you have achieved (C2/C3)

In return you will be rewarded with a competitive salary, ongoing professional development and generous leave provisions.
