He angitūtanga: The opportunity
The Capability team is responsible for Auckland Council’s Building Consent Authority competency assessments, technical audits and specialist functions such as earthquake-prone buildings, Licensed Building Practitioner complaints, product assessments and maintenance of the producer statement register amongst other duties. The team predominately works within the Building Act 2004 and the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006 framework. 

 

There are a number of exciting opportunities available within the department to assist in the implementation and ongoing development of our staff who are performing technical functions. We are open to discussing flexible/remote working options across the North and South Island.  These functions can include processing building consents, performing Inspections & assessing Code Compliance Certificates. A significant focus of the role is to provide coaching, mentoring, and training to our Building Consent technical staff. 

 

Reporting to the Team Leader Assessment, we will look to you to actively provide leadership in the development of our staff through performing competency assessments, technical audits, and staff training. This role will provide you with the opportunity to ensure staff is maintaining knowledge and expertise and to ensure the technical criteria for competency assessments are up-to-date and reflect what is happening in the industry.

 

He kōrero mōu: About you
You will have significant experience in building-related regulatory services (processing consent applications, inspecting buildings, or assessing code compliance certificates), a relevant professional or tertiary qualification and/or considerable experience in a building regulatory-related environment, and a full New Zealand driver’s license. You will be a skilled communicator with the ability to motivate staff through your coaching, mentoring, and training talents.

 

Your technical competencies will include experience in assessing applications or performing inspections preferably with a competency level of Residential 1 to Residential 3, and/or Commercial 1 to Commercial 3, or relevant experience in a similar role within the construction sector. 

 

You will have good process orientation with an ability to apply sound judgment and decision-making skills to promote continued business improvement. Computer literacy skills will be visible through the production of reports, monitoring and reviewing of statistical information, and research of applications. 

 

It is preferable that you have been assessed for Appendix 2 under the National Competency Assessment Framework (NCAS).
