  • A sound understanding of the 2017 Earthquake Prone Building (EPB) Legislation and the EPB methodology to identifying potentially Earthquake Prone Buildings
  • Knowledge of the 2016 Swimming pool Legislation and an awareness of the issues that TA's in New Zealand have recently faced when implementing the requirements of the legislation
  • Experience in dealing with conflict resolution and an understanding of how to achieve solutions that satisfy all parties as well as the legislative requirements
  • Leading investigations around matters of Building Compliance and working with other teams who may have shared interests in the issue at hand

This is an opportunity to help reach Council's strategic objectives at a time of transformation and development in the city. Your exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, will showcase your ability to liaise at all levels and across a wide audience.

This is not a role for the faint of heart but it is an incredible opportunity to sharpen your skills and knowledge around Building Compliance and at the same time make a difference to Invercargill.

To be successful in this position, you'll have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and/or substantial experience in Building Compliance
  • A current technical competency under the NCAS system is not a pre-requisite, however, you should previously have held one no lower than C2 within the last 3 years
  • A good understanding of Local Government processes, functions and legislation.
  • Exceptional communication and writing skills, particularly for report writing
  • Proven ability to build relationships and credibility with a wide stakeholder group
  • Proven ability to coordinate and collate input from various sources, and the ability to synthesise complex technical information into ‘easy read' content
  • Demonstrated high-level project management skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in work
