Site Safe commissioned report explores high local suicide rates in construction

In 2016, it was reported that almost 7% of working-age male suicides in New Zealand were by workers in the building industry, making construction the industry that experiences the highest number of suicides of any industry in the country.

This alarming statistic promoted Site Safe (with the support of BRANZ and the Building Research Levy) to commission a study that analysed the content of 300 coroners' closed case files of construction workers in New Zealand who died by suicide between 2007 and 2017. The resultant report has just been published.
