Downtown Auckland's Victoria St West open, Nelson St remains closed

Central Auckland's traffic nightmare is set to ease with Victoria St West reopened after a large concrete panel falling from a building forced its closure.

But nearby Nelson St will remain closed until the middle of the week.

Victoria St West had been closed since Thursday, when a large concrete panel fell from the 13th storey of Victopia Apartments.

Ian Harris, a representative of the apartments' body corporate, told Stuff engineers had marked about 50 loose panels and were working on a solution to make them safe until the whole building was re-clad in the next 12-18 months.
