Hans Gerlich


BE(Civil), ME(Fire), CPEng, IntPE and MIPENZ, MBOINZ

Hans is a chartered professional engineer with special interests in passive fire protection and the structural performance of low-rise framed construction. 

Hans is also a member of FPANZ, the Fire Protection Association of NZ, and has been involved with the development of a number of compliance documents and standards, including being a committee member for NZS 3604:2011. 

Hans has a background in civil engineering contracting, local authority building controls, research development and product appraisals and has for the last 20 years been with Winstone Wallboards Limited, responsible for the development and ongoing maintenance of GIB performance plasterboard systems including bracing, noise control and fire rated elements. 

He provides daily design and construction advice to builders, architects, engineers, as well as building officials. 

Hans presents regularly at conferences and has been involved with BOINZ for many years both at national and branch level.

In addition to having engineering qualifications he enjoys hands-on construction and has renovated a 1600's apartment in the Netherlands recently and whilst on family visits. Being involved in the actual construction and instrumentation of a wide variety of test specimens over many years has also provided in-depth understanding of how 'things tick'.

Because of his work Hans has expert skills so is a valuable asset to the BOINZ Training Academy.
