Plans unclear on whether Reading's Courtenay Place revamp will see building strengthened or demolished

Reading Cinemas has told investors it is "laser focused" on re-inventing the earthquake-prone Courtenay Central complex - but how it plans to go about the multi-million dollar revamp remains a mystery.

Reading International showcased details of its new "top-to-bottom" renovation during its recent annual general meeting. The company said it wanted to breathe "new life" into the Courtenay Place building, which has been closed since January due to seismic concerns.

Slides presented to shareholders say Reading expects to invest $2.03 million in its New Zealand cinema portfolio this year, followed by $21.03 million over the following two years.
