Post-event rapid building assessments establish building usability after an emergency event has struck an area. Section 133BT of the Building Act 2004 gives 'responsible persons' the powers to prohibit or restrict the use of the building.

MBIE have produced a video to support building owners and occupiers when their building receives a placard.

The intention of this is two-fold. The first is to clearly explain what placards mean and how they should be treated. It is important that people understand what each placard does and doesn't mean, and that they are legal documents. The second is to support Rapid Building Assessors in educating the public when they are carrying out assessments, so they can focus on assessing risk posed to damaged buildings.

The video is available on the Building Performance website.
